NYC
This and my subsequent trip to Vegas marks the end of the most eventful summer of my life!!! Maybe I'll FINALLY sit down and sum up the last three months. Or at the very least, upload some pictures to have something to show for all the miles I racked up.

Perfectionist
Once night falls, the Eiffel Tower lights up. And at the top of each hour, the tower twinkles for about 15 minutes. It's the most beautiful thing. I caught the end of it on video but it is a million times better in person.

This morning
Julie: Yup (totally lying). Do YOU think we can?
Jon: Nope. You'd get bored and I'd get hungry.
There's a reason why this marriage works.

I'm always watching the Food Network
I should really bite my tongue but I don't think I can. Seriously, what is up with the popped collar?!?! It's not even one of those shirts that people traditionally "pop." I try to be understanding when I see tweens and teens doing the same because, well, they're experimenting. But Ina's fashion statement is screaming I live in the Hamptons and that's how WE rock our shirts here. After a couple years at JGSM, I've seen enough popping!!!! Grrr.
Verdict? Ina's got culinary prowess so I think she wins.

Roman vacation
Pizza with pretty much everything on it.
I ordered a vegetarian pizza but spur of the moment asked for prosciutto on top. The big Italian man who took my order raised his eyebrow and gave me a weird look. While we waited for our pizza, I saw him cut up vegetables and then took a wash cloth to scrub his shoes. During this entire time he didn't wash his hands. This, to me, is the real Italian kitchen.
We're leaving the island of Capri and spending the night in the ghettos of Naples before flying back to Paris for another day. Apparently, crime is to Naples as the Mafia is to Sicily. I guess we should've planned a little better.
Happy 4th!

Florence
The line at the Galleria dell'Accademia averaged 2 hours under the scorching sun. That was unacceptable to us so Jon put on his shadiest face and set out to bribe a sketchy tour guide. And the shadiness worked. We each paid an extra 5 euros, cut the line, and went straight to the most magnificent structure I've ever laid my eyes on - Michelangelo's David. An hour later, we exited the museum and found that the family who was standing behind me had moved up around the corner but had another hour to wait. That made paying a little more money more than worth it!
Today, Jon and I made a quick half-day trip to Cinque Terre, which are five villages along the coast of Italy. These small towns had so much flavor and are known for their dry, white wine, pesto, and anchovies. Don't know what got into us, or me, but I felt compelled to order an entire bottle of wine during dinner. It was AMAZING wine, but we couldn't even finish half the bottle. So we sent it to the table next to us, another American couple on vacation. They were elated and we were relieved to not have to waste a drop of it. Win-win, I'd say.
We're taking a train to Rome in a few hours. Since art class in undergrad, I've dreamed of seeing the Sistine Chapel. I hope it lives up to all the hype and my expectations.
Good night. Zzzzzz.
